A little about me

After growing up in the Midwest, I moved to Richmond, VA where
I currently live with my girlfriend Jane and our two cats, Chamomile and Mimosa. I love to spend my time working on art and design projects, as well as exploring the city, mountains, and the beach.

Work ethic

Executing design tasks with excellence and a high attention to detail is of the utmost importance to me. I believe that exceptional design is achieved by aiming for the most ideal solution, not the easiest one.

Growth aspirations

My passion for design is rooted in a long-standing interest in visual systems, user interfaces, and human-centered design. Having started my career in brand identity and marketing, I've since begun to build upon that foundation with digital interface work using design systems thinking.

Schlage Iconography

6 months into my first role as a 2D Artist, I was asked if I was interested in developing a refreshed set of icons for the Schlage brand. The goal was to have these icons feel more consistent and future-forward than our previous set. They would be included in marketing materials of both Schlage electronic and mechanical products, slowly building up to a comprehensive, uniquely Schlage library of icons.

Though this request fell outside of the scope of my role at the time, I was excited by the opportunity for growth and already thinking of ways to approach the buildout. Feeling confident in my vision and previous vector-based work, I decided to take the project on.

The above icons were developed early on in the proof-of-concept phase of the buildout. With guidance from my manager, I established this unique line-based style of icons, teasing out guidelines for margins, stroke widths, corner radii, and color treatment in the process.

Prior Schlage icons were starting to look dated, and lacked consistency of style and execution.

The new set carries with it a more specific and consistent “Schlage” personality. It feels fresh, clean, and friendly; well-equipped for increasing digital demands.

Over four years later, the initial trial set has grown into a fuller collection of over 60 icons, and it continues to grow each year. This collection is in regular and widespread usage across numerous Schlage marketing touchpoints, such as: infographics for e-commerce and schlage.com, product and promotional videos, and retail signage and packaging.
